However, after Fish suffered a torn ACL and torn MCL in his left knee, he was replaced by Adam Cole, who at TakeOver: New Orleans on April 7, 2018, was considered champion with Fish and O'Reilly under the Freebird Rule. On the April 11 tapings of NXT, Strong replaced Fish and Cole, with him and O'Reilly subsequently holding and defending the titles as a duo.
